Weekend round up

Firsts win away, Colts and Women both score 60 points in big wins

Another good weekend saw the First VX continue their winning start, winning 0-13 at Old Crossleyans, the Panthers were depleted by enforced late injury call ups to the Firsts, and went down 5- 32 at Percy Road.
On Sunday, the Colts ran in 9 tries, 8 of which were converted in a 5 - 61 win at Old Brodleians.
It was all smiles for Pocklington Women who opened their season’s account with a stunning performance in front of a large crowd, beating Driffield II at Percy Road by 60-0.
The First team faced a stiff challenge on Saturday with late call ups due to injuries and heavy rain falling throughout the 80 minutes, on the tight pitch at Old Crossleyans.
Crossleyans had the chance to take an early lead on 8 minutes when they had a penalty opportunity in front of the posts, but it was pushed wide. Pock had a similar opportunity midway through the half and Christian Pollock converted to put them in front.
The conditions were difficult and the game was very attritional with both defences holding up well. In the second quarter Pollock repeated his earlier penalty success to give Pock a 6 nil lead.
With Pock in the ascendancy and having a penalty advantage on the left, fly half Harry Matthews delivered a perfect cross field kick which Jed Jackson caught and touched down. Unfortunately he was adjudged to be in front of the kicker and the try was chalked off and Pocklington opted for a scrum from the earlier penalty. Mattie Downes took the ball from the back of the scrum and proved too strong for the home defence, crashing over under the posts for a try which Pollock converted to make the half time score 0 - 13.
Despite the best efforts of both sides, neither were able to trouble the scoreboard in the second half and Pock maintained their unbeaten start in Regional 2 North East.
There is no league match this Saturday, Pocklington return to Halifax on October 4th when they play Old Brodleians who have also gone unbeaten so far this season.
