After only a couple of months since the creation of the Harrogate Hogs WTR, Tony Phillips and Mike Cowling have done a fantastic job of getting local teams together for not only a great round robin of WTR, but also a cracking beer festival, food fiesta and live music.

Pocklington took over a mixture of players, including Wharfdale and Thornton players to field Pocklington and Jester outfits on the day. Paul also guested for York, and five local teams produced some cracking WTR under the blazing sunshine.

The Jesters, lead by the sidelined Govnor, and captained by Dave Gibson, faired well. With players from all over the county and an age range from 65 to 76, the team pushed all the opposition to the limit, but ultimately lost three and drew one. Statto (Top Gun), picked up player of the day..

Pocklington made a good start to proceedings, and CJ’s Squad produced some fine touchdowns in games that were characterised by clear improved standards from all teams. Testimony to the effort being put in county wide by coaches, clubs and players.

So Pocklington went into their final game unbeaten to face York , who were also unbeaten. It was Pock who came out on top with a cracking Jones try.

A brilliant day of local WTR, and a great opportunity to share a drink or two with our friends from Wath, Harrogate, York, Wharfdale, and the Barbarians who are the Jesters. Well done to “Top Gun”, and a huge thanks to our captains and squad who are always a credit to the game.
