It was all smiles for the end of season finale at Percy Road where a Pocklington team selected from all of our Senior Men’s teams and the Colts faced an invitational side made up of friends, old and new, from around the region who represented club President Paul Rhodes.
In a hard fought encounter, played on a very firm pitch in the warm sunshine, Pocklington edged the result by 35 points to 29.
In front of a good crowd, the President’s side made the early running and with their experienced pack dominant they built up a 15 point lead. Pocklington remained resolute though, displaying the spirit and discipline which earned promotion this season and narrowed the deficit to one point before the break.
The lead changed hands several times in the second half with Pocklington going ahead by 6 points close to full time. The President’s side were applying pressure to the Pocklington line right up until the final whistle but were kept out by a solid defence.
Pocklington skipper Andy Argo-Bennett received the winners’ trophy from Paul Rhodes before everyone bid farewell to a great season with a few cold beers in the evening sunshine
